Autumn Breaks on Lanzarote
Summer may soon be coming to end in most of mainland Europe. But in one small part of the EU, the Canary Islands, the sun continues to shine throughout autumn and even into winter. Thanks to the southerly location of this island chain.
Lanzarote is one of seven islands in the Canaries and makes an ideal location for anyone planning a break during the autumn months. As the weather here remains superb at that time of the year, with warm sea and air temperatures and much fewer tourists to share these conditions with than during the summer months.
Outside of school half term holidays the island is also much cheaper to visit at this time of the year too. Accommodation costs tumble as the owners of Lanzarote villas and apartments drop prices to attract bookings. Hotel room rates fall and the cost of Lanzarote flights also becomes much cheaper. At the same time the islands resorts don’t shut down as is the case in other parts of Europe – so all bars shops and restaurants remain open for business as usual.
From the UK the island is a four hour journey and there are plenty of competing budget airlines offering flight deals. Check out comparison sites such as Skyscanner and Flightline to help you find the best current offers before making your booking. The cost of vehicle rental also tumbles in autumn so on arrival check out the best deals available from the many Lanzarote car hire offices competing for tourist trade in the arrivals hall.
Driving on the island is very easy as the roads are quite well signposted and Lanzarote is small. So it is hard to get lost. Although you still need of course to acclimatise to the fact that the locals all drive on the wrong side of the road!
During the 1970´s the island was unfairly dubbed Lanza-grotty but this really could not be further from the truth today. The average visitor now is just as likely to be an independent traveller heading for a rural hotel as a package holidaymaker. Especially during the autumn months. And as a destination Lanzarote is in fact far more unspoiled than many other holiday hot spots in Spain. Without an advertising hoarding or a high rise building in sight.
Search accommodation options in the largest resorts of Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen to find the best deals this autumn.
